Pamela Voorhees

REAL NAME:

Pamela Sue Voorhees (her maiden name is never revealed).

ORIGINS/RESIDES IN:

Crystal Lake.

BACK STORY:

Pamela was born on January 1st 1930. When she was 15 years old, she became pregnant by Elias Voorhees. At 16 she gave birth to a baby boy called Jason who was diagnosed as hydro cephalic. Elias was said to have been very abusive. She apparently killed him with an axe and left him behind in the trailer she set fire too. She was extremely overprotective of her Son, even going as far as never sending him to school because of his deformity. She manages to get a job as a cook at Camp Crystal Lake, where unfortunately in 1957, her son drowned due to the neglect of the camp counsellors. After her son had died, she had began hearing voices. They were telling her to kill those that were responsible for her sons death. A year after his death, she returned and killed the 2 counsellors who she felt were responsible for her sons death. The camp was then closed and local residents nicknamed it "Camp Blood". When someone tried to re-open the site in 1962, she set fires and poisoned the water, causing it to be closed again. She kept watch of the site from her house which bordered the property. It was prepared to re-open again in 1980. Pamela went on to kill the camp leader and 6 of the camp counsellor's before the surviving counsellor decapitates her with a machete. She is said to have been buried in a run down cemetery, but after Jason was killed by Tommy Jarvis, she was supposedly relocated to Eternal Peace cemetery with him.

ENEMY(S):

The camp counsellors who let her boy drown.

CREATED BY:

Sean S Cunningham.

APPEARS IN:

Friday the 13th, Friday the 13: Part 2 (as a hallucination), Friday the 13th: Part 3 (as a nightmare) and Freddy VS Jason (as a guise of Freddy).

PORTRAYED BY:

Betsy Palmer (Friday 13th & Friday 13 Part 2), Connie Hogan, Marilyn Poucher (Friday 13th Part 3), Paula Shaw (Freddy VS Jason) and Nana Visitor (Friday 13 2009).

APPEARANCE:

A woman in her 50s with short, permed dark blonde hair, brown eyes and slightly tanned skin. She is seen wearing black trousers with an old light blue knitted jumper.

HEIGHT:

N/A

PERSONALITY:

On one hand you could say she was an average, if not over protective mother. On the other hand she was a borderline psychopath. In all fairness, she probably reacted in a way in which many mothers would do if someone harmed their child. The voices in her head cause her to lose all reason and she goes from grieving mother to a one track minded killer.

FAVOURITE WEAPON:

She was generally seen brandishing a bowie knife.

FAMOUS LINE/QUOTE:

"Kill her Mommy!" (mimicking Jason).

ANY OTHER MEDIA:

She appears in Eric Morse's Camp Crystal Lake series, the Jason VS Leatherface series (in which she is renamed Doris), a Jason X mini-series, Friday the 13th: Jason VS Jason X, the novels; Jason X: Death Moon, Friday the 13th: Hell Lake and Friday the 13th: Carnival of Maniacs. There has also been 2 miniseries dedicated to her called Friday the 13th: Pamela's Tale and Friday the 13th: How I Spent My Summer Vacation. She also made an appearance in the first issue of the Freddy VS Jason VS Ash miniseries. She makes an appearance in the Friday the 13th video game and has her own action figure. Apparently, there is an insane character in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, that keeps the severed head of his mother in his living quarters. This is seen as a homage to the movie.

POPULARITY:

One thing she certainly did do was boost up the femininity in serial killers! She also became every married mans worst nightmare. Imagine finding out that you have a mother in law like this?? The character also showed that you didn't have to look a certain way to be a serial killer. As popular as the character is, it is amazing how many people get the killer from the first film wrong (everyone usually says Jason). It is safe to say that the character is more popular now than she was when the film first came out, most people didn't think that it was very "becoming" for a mother figure to go to such lengths to avenge her child.....but then, who wouldn't?
